Liquid Apple

Not too long ago, in the little village of Steinwenden, not far from Ramstein Air Force Base, my missionary companion Miles Layton and I were going door to door along a small side street. It was a warm fall day, with intermittant sunlight peaking through the typical gray German sky. The day passed slowly, with little real success at the door. Only an old Hausfrau watching us from her living room window as we knocked unsuccessfully down the street, and an occassional car towing a cart of apples. It was still odd seeing Mercedes with a trailer hitch.

Miles and I turned the corner to see a small line of cars, unloading apples into a small warehouse. Of course the discovered apple juice factory was much more interesting than hearing another 'no' or 'keine Intresse.' Taking in the scene, we walked into the loading bay area, found a main office and requested a couple bottles of juice. We each bought a bottle of clear and clouldy apple juice.

Sitting back into our car, we took a much needed swig from the bottles. And all I can say...WOW! Liquid gold! Miles took a drink and called it liquid apple. Luckily, he wasn't far off - because the label said it was Fluessige Apfel (liquid apple). Well, I did a search today and found the company, Loesch's. Now I just can't wait to rediscover the gold of that fall afternoon in 1998.
